Do I Need Liposuction Or A Tummy Tuck?

Do I need Liposuction or a Tummy Tuck

Here’s A Question I Get Asked All The Time: “Do I Need Liposuction Or A Tummy Tuck?”

To understand whether you need liposuction or a tummy tuck (also known as abdominoplasty), it is important to know how these two very different procedures work.

Liposuction removes fat from under the skin.

A long instrument…basically a metal straw…is inserted under the skin through a tiny incision. Then, the fat is suctioned out during liposuction.

However, the skin itself is left basically unchanged.

It may snap back a little, but if the skin is severely loose before liposuction it will likely remain loose after liposuction.

Curious About Who Is A Good Candidate For Liposuction Rather Than A Tummy Tuck?

A good candidate for liposuction of the abdomen has good abdominal skin. For example, a younger woman that has never had children, or a woman whose skin is a little loose.

Fat is removed from under the skin and the good quality skin snaps back.  The muscle is left untouched.

The incisions are tiny and the recovery is pretty easy.

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is more involved but achieves a far more dramatic result.

During a tummy tuck, a large amount of skin is removed through an incision in the bikini line. Fat is also removed with the skin. The abdominal wall muscles are then pulled back into their correct side-by-side position.

A tummy tuck addresses three elements….skin, fat and muscle, and the result is often very dramatic.

This transformation is accomplished by making longer incisions, and the recovery time is greater.
