What is a “Mommy Makeover”?

The hormones of pregnancy, the weight gain, and subsequent breast feeding cause the breast tissue itself to enlarge. When pregnancy and breast feeding are completed, the breast tissue shrinks down again, but the skin does not. Many women are left with breasts that have lost volume and shape, taking a somewhat saggy appearance.
Dr. Restifo can perform Breast Augmentation with implants to create fullness to the breasts and give them balance and contour. In some cases, the Mastopexy or Breast Lift is designed to correct the excess skin in the breast. Removal of the excess skin allows for a firming up and lifting of the breast. This creates a look similar to before pregnancy.
As a baby grows inside the mother, the expanding uterus pushes against the muscles of the abdominal wall and stretches them. This stretching can weaken these muscles. In addition, the skin overlying the uterus is stretched as well. Once it has been stretched it will not shrink all the way back.
An Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck does two things to the tummy to help it look similar to the way it did before pregnancy. First, the muscles of the stomach are tightened, creating a flatter appearing stomach. Next, the extra skin is removed so that the tummy area has a much smoother feel.
