Which Is The Better Implant: Saline Or Silicone?

Which is the Better Implant Saline or Silicone

A lot of patients ask which is the better implant: saline or silicone. The answer is…it depends.

It depends on how much breast tissue you have.

Silicone implants are the more popular type of implant, mostly because they look and feel more like breast tissue than do saline implants. However, this difference between silicone and saline depends greatly on the amount of breast tissue that a woman has to cover the implant.

In your hand, the silicone implant feels more “real”. But suppose we cover the implant with breast tissue.  Suppose we bury the implant with a lot of breast tissue… The more tissue that covers the implant, the less one feels the implant, and the less the implant itself matters.

So a woman with little breast tissue benefits the most from silicone, but a woman with a lot of breast tissue does well with either silicone or saline because the implant is buried and not easily felt.

More women choose silicone over saline, but I think that the saline implants are a little underrated.

During a consultation, all of these factors can be explored with respect to your particular circumstances, and you can be confident that you are choosing the right implant for you.

If you’re curious how you might look with breast implants, you can try MENTOR’S breast implant simulator (please note this is not as advanced as the Vectra 3D imaging used at the preoperative appointment but is simply a tool to begin envisioning your transformation).
