Abdominal Etching: An Easier Way To Get A Six-Pack

Want six-pack abs without drastically altering your lifestyle? Abdominal etching might be the answer if you’re at an optimal body weight, maintain a healthy diet, but just need a little extra help removing small layers of fat above on the abdominal wall.

An Easier Way To Get Six-Pack Abs

Let’s face it: unless you are genetically blessed with minimal body fat and naturally toned muscles, the journey to create and sustain six-pack abs without surgery is long and arduous. Even fitness buffs and hard-core athletes know that six-packs are elusive without extreme dieting and intense exercise.

Liposuction And Abdominal Etching

When diet and exercise alone don’t achieve the look you want, abdominal etching is another way to create the appearance of a leaner, more athletic abdomen.

So how does abdominal etching work?

Dr. Restifo explains,

“Fat is suctioned as to create thinner and thicker areas on the abdominal wall that mimic the appearance of a six-pack.”

Curious how ab etching is done?

This is done via a differential liposuction technique. Prior to the procedure, a patient is asked to flex while the surgeon makes detailed markings of the patient’s abs. During the surgery, small incisions are made within the natural muscular contours of the abdomen and a special instrument called a cannula is used to remove and sculpt fatty tissue under the skin.  This creates the effect of a perfectly toned mid-section.

Good Candidates For Abdominal Etching

Ab etching is one way to get a six-pack with liposuction.

Abdominal etching is only suitable for patients who are already in good physical condition and have minimal pinchable belly fat and decent muscle tone to begin with.

Moreover, patients need to maintain a healthy diet and active lifestyle to maintain the results of liposuction of any kind.

Dr. Restifo’s Approach To Ab Etching

Dr. Restifo works with athletic men and women, including models and CrossFit competitors to achieve a dream six-pack. That said, not everyone is a good candidate for the procedure and he is very upfront with patients about setting realistic goals.

Traditional liposuction with larger cannulas may be better-suited to patients with larger accumulations of abdominal fat. A weight loss regimen may also be recommended (get a deal on Edge Fitness memberships here).  Finally, some patients may require a tummy tuck to achieve a flat abdomen in cases when there is excessive skin atop the abdominal muscles.

It’s important to note that abdominal etching is not a weight loss technique and not everyone who performs liposuction has the surgical experience to get natural-looking results.

The best way to determine whether you’re a good candidate for abdominal etching is to schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has the skills to offer a variety of treatment options to meet your needs.
