Am I a Good Candidate For Plastic Surgery?

Am I a good candidate for plastic surgery?
Here are three factors that determine whether or not you are a good candidate for plastic surgery: safety, anatomy, and goals.
PLASTIC SURGERY: SAFETY FIRST!
When it comes to surgery of any kind, Dr. Restifo’s top priority is safety. There is no aesthetic outcome worth sacrificing your health over. To begin with, every potential patient must be in good overall health before undergoing plastic surgery. That doesn’t mean a good candidate for plastic surgery needs to be in perfect health, but patients need to have:
- Stable body weight; ideally within 20Lbs of your ideal weight
- Normal blood pressure
- Safe cholesterol levels
- Ideally, a BMI under 30
These factors will contribute to the best recovery and results. That said, it’s also okay if blood pressure and cholesterol require medication to be managed.
pLASTIC SURGERY APPROPRIATE TO YOUR ANATOMY
The second variable for whether or not you are a good candidate for plastic surgery is your anatomy. Your anatomy has to be appropriate for the procedure you are considering. For instance, liposuction candidates need to have smooth, taut skin. If your skin lacks elasticity and you remove underlying fat, the skin is going to sag and create a crepey look. Patients who don’t have great skin elasticity will probably do better with a tummy tuck, arm lift, breast lift, or thigh lift.
For some breast augmentation patients, a great result may be possible with implants alone, while other patients may find they need a breast lift with implants to better reposition the nipples and/or remove loose skin.
Brazilian Butt Lift candidates need to carry excess fat in the abdomen or elsewhere in order to harvest fat for injecting into the behind.
PLASTIC SURGERY GOALS
The last factor patients should consider are their plastic surgery goals. What do you hope to get out of plastic surgery? A good candidate for plastic surgery has realistic goals.
Here’s the thing: plastic surgery cannot fix a troubled relationship, guarantee a big promotion, or change your fundamental personality. And having surgery for anyone other than yourself is not advisable. But, if your goal is to improve your appearance, Dr. Restifo can do that. This, in turn, can provide a big boost in self-esteem and embolden you to engage with the world in new and wonderful ways. As always, we recommend you find a board-certified surgeon that specializes in the procedures you’re considering.
